Bamboo Resources for Pacific Northwest innovations
PBR pursuing opportunities in the PNW
Building on our international portfolio of work, PBR is actively pursuing collaborative plans for bamboo resource networks to emerge throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Complimenting recent initiatives to create climate-friendly industries, "green collar jobs", and "clean energy" power markets, PBR is adding bamboo resources to this list of exciting eco-innovations.
Why bamboo for the Pacific Northwest -- here are 5 good reasons:
- the PNW climate (ecological and economic) is ideal for urban and rural cultivation, harvesting and manufacturing processes;
- bamboo can be grown safely, carefully and ethically -- "best practice" management routines can eliminate concerns attributed to non-native, invasive resources (and energies) while optimizing benefits;
- bamboo agroforestry is a worthwhile addition to existing natural resource industry portfolios;
- regional educational institutions can provide important job training and professional development for emerging career paths;
- communities throughout the PNW are seeking ways to effectively reduce energy usage and costs, carbon emissions, and associated "footprints" -- bamboo and healthy soils can provide excellent carbon sequestration and support many valuable products and services.
In short, bamboo resources can provide a win-win-win scenario for the PNW -- economic revitalization, ecological restoration (and climate benefits) and new opportunities for sustainable community development.
Our PBR Team (or "clump") continues to grow!
As an indicator of the excitement associated with bamboo resource developments in the region, the PBR Staff is pleased to welcome our Northwest and International Advisory Board members. Our readiness and initiatives are strengthened by the insights and contributions of our interdisciplinary professional advisors. Thank you!!
