DESCRIPTION:The course will be jointly carried out by INBAR and the Ba
 mboo Industry Associations of Lin'an and Anji counties in Zhejiang pro
 vince\, China. It focuses on policies and case studies from the two co
 unties\, where impressive developments have taken place over the recen
 t years. While classroom lectures will be kept to a minimum\, the cour
 se will provide ample opportunities to interact with the players\, i.e
 .\, local administrators\, support staff\, entrepreneurs and communiti
 es through field visits to villages and production sites. Beyond an ey
 e-opening effect\, this will facilitate an understanding of the potent
 ial for poverty alleviation\, the evolution of the policy environment\
 , private sector and community partnerships\, organization and market 
 linkages\, and the need to maintain a competitive edge through the dev
 elopment of new products. Course modules specifically would include\: 
 bamboo development policies and strategies\; Bamboo in rural developme
 nt and poverty alleviation/income generation\; private sector and comm
 unity partnership models\; community organization\; household/micro-en
 terprise development\; farmer-market linkages\; backward linkages/supp
 ly industries development\; multi-stakeholder participation\; supply c
 hain development\; efficiency of raw material utilization\; product de
 velopment\, etc.
